President Donald Trump said on Friday he has ordered US forces to be prepared to launch strikes against Iran if Tehran attempts or carries out an assassination against him. The warning came in a post on his Truth Social account, where he said large numbers of missiles are ready and that the military has been instructed to be prepared to act.
Trump wrote that ‘1000 missiles are locked and loaded and aimed at the Islamic Republic of Iran’ and said additional munitions would follow immediately if Iran acted on what he described as threats to assassinate the sitting US president. He added that orders are in place and that US forces are ready, for one year subject to extension, to severely damage or destroy targeted areas of Iran if necessary.
Separately, the US Treasury announced new Iran-related sanctions on Friday. The measures target Ali Ansari, an Iranian banker and businessman based in Dubai who the Treasury says has helped finance Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other regime interests, and 13 other individuals and entities. The move follows a resurgence of attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, US officials said.
Treasury officials allege Ansari diverted state funds into an extensive overseas portfolio of real estate and commercial holdings to enrich himself, regime insiders, and the IRGC. In addition to Ansari, the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated three Iran-based exchange houses and several foreign front companies accused of moving billions of dollars on behalf of sanctioned Iranian banks, often using layered shell companies to obscure the transactions.
The combined messaging — a public threat of military retaliation by the US president and stepped-up financial penalties — underscores Washington’s response to what it views as escalating Iranian activity in the region and threats against US leaders and interests.
