US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will make a four-day visit to India from May 23 to 26 to deepen cooperation on trade, defence, energy and security, the State Department announced. Spokesman Tommy Pigott said Rubio’s itinerary includes stops in Kolkata, Agra, Jaipur and New Delhi, where he will meet senior Indian officials to discuss bilateral and regional priorities.
Rubio will travel to India from Sweden after attending the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting on May 22. His New Delhi visit coincides with a Quad foreign ministers’ meeting scheduled for May 26, convened to address pressing global issues including the fallout from the West Asia crisis. The Quad session is expected to include Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and will be presided over by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
The State Department framed the trip as an opportunity to advance U.S.-India collaboration across energy, security, trade and defence sectors. (PTI, May 20, 2026)
