By Reuters, May 27, 2026 — US President Donald Trump said Wednesday he is not yet satisfied with a proposed deal with Iran and that Washington is not discussing easing sanctions.
Speaking to reporters at a White House cabinet meeting, Trump said Iran wants to reach an agreement but has not met US expectations. ‘Iran is very much intent, they want very much to make a deal. So far they haven’t gotten there … we’re not satisfied with it, but we will be. We will be either that or we’ll have to just finish the job,’ he said.
Trump said that under a potential framework the Strait of Hormuz would be opened immediately but that no one nation would control it. ‘We’ll watch over it, but nobody’s going to control it. They would like to control it. Nobody’s going to control it. It’s international waters and Oman will behave just like everybody else or we’ll have to blow them up,’ he said.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on his remarks about Oman, and Oman’s embassy in Washington also did not immediately reply.
Trump also said he was not comfortable with Russia or China taking Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
