Smplify Innovates Device Management with Human Oversight for AI

Smplify introduces a new approach to device management, emphasizing the need for human control over AI actions in today’s automated landscape.

In the rapidly evolving world of technology, effective device management is critical. As companies adopt more Apple devices, the demand for tailored management solutions has surged. Smplify, a fresh entrant in this field, seeks to address this need by implementing a structure that integrates human oversight into AI operations.

Funding and Founders

Recently, Smplify announced it has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding. This backing sets a solid foundation for its innovative vision, spearheaded by co-founder and COO Ben Greiner, alongside device management veteran Preetham Gurram. Gurram's impressive track record includes significant roles at renowned firms like MobileIron, SOTI, and Apple, where he contributed to major mobile device management (MDM) advancements.

Addressing Governance in AI

As IT landscapes grow more complex due to advancing AI capabilities, Greiner highlights a pressing concern. “The typical approach to device management has relied on human intervention,” he explains. However, with AI agents now capable of executing decisions at unprecedented speeds, the need for robust oversight systems becomes starkly apparent.

A report by OneTrust illustrates this trend, revealing that while 87% of organizations are embracing AI agents, only 47% have established comprehensive governance measures. This indicates a significant gap that could lead to potential disasters if not addressed.

The Risks of AI Autonomy

The delegation of authority to AI agents raises pivotal questions: who is overseeing their actions? Greiner warns of scenarios where agents could implement drastic changes to networks without prior authorization. Such scenarios underscore the necessity for systems that can monitor and audit these actions reliably.

Industry leaders, including those at Jamf—a notable player in device management—acknowledge these challenges. Jamf's CEO Beth Tschida emphasized the importance of developing visibility and governance around AI tools, stating, “AI is occurring whether organizations are aware of it or not.” They have recently introduced an AI Governance suite to help manage these transitions.

Last-Mile Control: A Unique Approach

Smplify aims to merge governance directly into the management process. Greiner refers to this as the
