Paramount's Warner Bros. Merger to be Renamed Skydance

David Ellison announces that the new company formed from the Paramount and Warner Bros. merger will be called Skydance.

Skydance: A New Era for Entertainment

In an exciting announcement, David Ellison, CEO of Paramount Skydance, revealed that the company will operate under the name Skydance following the impending $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Discovery. This change is set to take place next week, marking a significant moment in the world of entertainment.

Emphasis on Identity

Ellison shared his thoughts on this decision via a post on X, emphasizing that the new name aims to craft an identity for the combined company while allowing iconic brands like Paramount and Warner Bros. to maintain their individual prominence. He stated, “We wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.”

A Judicial Approval

Earlier this week, the merger received a significant boost as a judge approved a settlement between Paramount and California, along with 11 other states, that had previously filed lawsuits objecting to the merger. This ruling has cleared the final major obstacle standing in the way of the acquisition.

As part of the settlement, Paramount is now obliged to ensure the release of a minimum number of theatrical films over the next five years, starting off with an annual target of 30 films in the first two years. This ensures a consistent influx of new content from this newly formed giant.

Leadership Changes Ahead

In preparation for the merger's completion, Paramount has appointed Ynon Kreiz, the former chairman and CEO of Mattel, as co-CEO of the future entity. His experience and vision are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the direction of Skydance.

Looking to the Future

The merger is slated to close on October 6th, and anticipation is high for what this union will bring. Ellison expressed enthusiasm for the journey ahead, stating, “What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.”

“By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history — we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine.”

He further explained the significance of the new name: “As we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic.” The goal is to enhance the legacy of both, allowing them to flourish and reach a wider audience globally.

Ellison concluded, “We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination, and a willingness to take smart risks.” This forward-looking perspective aims to honor the special qualities of both studios while unlocking the potential of their combined forces.
