May 10, 2026 (Reuters) — Iran has sent its response to a U.S. proposal aimed at ending the more-than-two-month war, delivering the reply to Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported on Sunday.
A source familiar with the matter told IRNA that Iran’s contribution would narrow the current phase of talks to a single priority: an immediate cessation of hostilities across the region.
Officials and sources on both sides have told Reuters the latest diplomacy is focused on securing a short-term memorandum of understanding to pause the fighting and allow commercial traffic to resume through the Strait of Hormuz. That temporary arrangement would buy time for negotiators to pursue a broader, more comprehensive deal — one that would need to confront longer-standing, difficult issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme.
Reuters did not immediately receive comment from U.S. officials. The report was filed by Reuters and carried by IRNA.
