President Donald Trump is set to spend the weekend at Camp David, marking only his second visit to the presidential retreat since returning to office last year. A White House official said Trump will use the secluded Maryland estate for a combination of policy and political meetings; his family will join him for the trip, which includes Father’s Day.
The visit comes as Trump pushes to finalize an agreement aimed at ending the conflict with Iran, while facing criticism that a provisional peace arrangement would give Tehran too many concessions. Talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations scheduled for Friday in Switzerland were called off after fighting erupted in Lebanon, adding fresh uncertainty about when negotiations can resume. Those talks are considered crucial to reopening the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping and easing tensions across the Middle East.
On Friday, Trump defended the U.S. position, saying Iran had come to the negotiating table from a weakened stance and insisting the United States would not release funds to Tehran as part of any interim understanding. He posted on Truth Social that the administration would hold to its 60-day process and that Iran would receive “no money.”
Trump’s last trip to Camp David was in June 2025, when he met with senior military and foreign policy advisers to discuss protests in California, developments in Iran, and the war in Gaza. Unlike many recent presidents who frequently used the Catoctin Mountain retreat for both work and respite, Trump has largely preferred weekends at his private properties, including Mar-a-Lago in Florida and his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
A planned Cabinet meeting at Camp David in May was relocated to the White House because of forecasted bad weather. The retreat, roughly 70 miles from Washington, D.C., has historically been a more regular fixture in presidential schedules and a venue for high-level diplomacy and policy discussions.
