US President Donald Trump, speaking from the White House about his unilateral action against Iran and its economic fallout, drew attention for a jibe at French President Emmanuel Macron. In the address, Trump linked rising fuel prices to what he called Iranian “terror attacks” on commercial tankers and neighbouring countries, and thanked regional allies for their support.
Referencing a request for maritime help in the Gulf, Trump said he called Macron and quipped, “Macron, whose wife treats him extremely badly. He’s still recovering from the right to the jaw,” a line that prompted laughter in the audience and that was circulated in a video shared by The Insider Paper. Trump claimed Macron responded that France could help only “after the war is won,” and said other leaders had offered similar post-conflict assistance.
Trump reiterated gratitude to Middle East partners, naming Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain, and promised continued support to ensure they “will not let them get hurt or fail in any way, shape, or form.” Addressing domestic concerns, he said the recent short-term rise in gasoline prices was entirely the result of the Iranian regime’s attacks on tankers and neighbouring countries.
