Sergey Brin gave more than $1.1 billion in Alphabet Inc. shares this week, according to a regulatory filing that did not identify recipients. The transfer involved over 3.5 million shares; a spokesperson for Brin’s family office said roughly $1 billion of the stock is going to Catalyst4, the nonprofit he launched in 2021 to support research into central nervous system diseases and climate solutions. About $90 million will go to his family foundation and $45 million to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which funds Parkinson’s research. In May, Brin distributed roughly $700 million in Alphabet shares to the same three charities.
Brin, 52, is the world’s fourth-richest person with an estimated $255.5 billion fortune on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. His net worth has surged this year amid an Alphabet share rally — the stock reached a high of $323 on Tuesday after gains tied to the company’s AI work. Brin holds about a 6% aggregate stake in Alphabet and has seen his fortune rise by roughly $97.3 billion year to date.
