The Kuwait Ministry of Defence said on March 2 that “several” US military aircraft crashed in Kuwaiti territory and that the crews are safe and in stable condition.
“The spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence stated that several US military aircraft crashed this morning, confirming the complete safety of their crews,” the Kuwait Army General Staff Headquarters wrote on X. It added that search-and-rescue teams were immediately deployed, the crews were evacuated and taken to hospital for checks and necessary care, and their condition is stable.
The announcement comes as a video circulating on social media reportedly shows a US F-15 fighter jet crashing; Iran has claimed it shot down that jet. The United States has not issued an official statement on the matter.
The broader regional conflict escalated after US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran, with Iran retaliating by striking US bases in Oman, Qatar and the UAE, among others.
Kuwait’s Army said investigations are underway to determine the cause of the crashes. The defence ministry’s spokesperson “affirmed” that authorities are following up on investigations, coordinating directly with US forces, and taking joint technical measures. Those remarks suggested a denial of Iranian responsibility pending the outcome of the probe.
Separately, fire and smoke were reported at the US Embassy compound in Kuwait on March 2, with alarms heard in the area. AP reported the blaze was linked to Iran’s attack. The US had earlier warned its citizens not to come to the embassy and advised them to remain indoors and take cover.
