U.S. President Donald Trump told Fox News in excerpts of an interview aired Thursday that China has agreed to purchase 200 Boeing jets, a move Reuters says would be Beijing’s first major order for U.S.-made commercial aircraft in nearly a decade. Trump said Boeing had sought 150 aircraft and that China agreed to buy 200.
Few details about the reported order were available immediately. Boeing shares fell more than 4% after Trump’s comments were broadcast. Media reports in recent weeks had suggested Boeing was nearing a much larger deal — possibly 500 or more planes — making the 200-jet figure smaller than some prior expectations.
The White House did not immediately clarify whether Trump was referring to a total order or to a specific mix of narrowbody and widebody aircraft, and Boeing did not respond right away to requests for comment.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had earlier indicated he expected an announcement about a large Boeing order during Trump’s visit to Beijing, where the president held talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Reuters will update when further details or confirmations become available.
