Chennai International Airport cancelled 47 flights on Saturday, November 29, as Cyclone Ditwah brought adverse weather to the region, airport authorities said. The cancellations comprised 36 domestic services and 11 international flights, grounded as a safety precaution.
Regional routes to Tiruchirappalli, Madurai and Tuticorin were the worst affected, with multiple consecutive cancellations. International connections to Colombo and Jaffna were also hit, including several SriLankan Airlines services that were called off.
Airport officials warned that further disruptions were possible as the weather system intensifies and urged passengers to check flight status with their airlines before travelling. The airport posted an update on Twitter listing the affected domestic and international services and asking travellers to confirm with carriers for the latest information.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has been severely impacted by Cyclone Ditwah, experiencing its worst flooding in a decade. Landslides and floods triggered by the storm have killed at least 153 people and affected more than half a million people nationwide.
