Social media platform X announced a crackdown on creators posting AI-generated war videos without disclosure, suspending them from the Creator Revenue Sharing Program for 90 days.
Head of product Nikita Bier said accounts that share synthetic conflict content without clearly labelling it as AI-generated will lose access to monetisation; repeat violations could lead to permanent removal from the programme.
The move comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in West Asia after the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran.
An AI-generated video depicting an airstrike on the Burj Khalifa went viral on X, gaining more than 8 million views and briefly confusing users before being identified as synthetic.
X said the rule is intended to prevent creators from profiting off misleading synthetic content tied to armed conflicts. Users may still post AI-generated videos, but must clearly disclose they are artificial to remain eligible for revenue sharing.
The episode underscores concerns that increasingly realistic synthetic videos could amplify misinformation during geopolitical crises, circulating alongside real footage from conflict zones.
