The headquarters of Pakistan’s paramilitary force was attacked Monday morning when three suicide bombers breached the walls of the Federal Constabulary (FC) HQ in Peshawar. Pakistani officials said three FC personnel were killed.
The incident occurred in Peshawar’s Saddar area on a busy road just after 8am, Dawn reported. According to authorities, a militant wearing a chaddor approached the gate and detonated himself, and two others then attempted to enter the compound.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad told reporters one bomber blew himself up at the gate. “Initially, three militants tried to attack the headquarters. One blew himself up at the gate, while two others tried to enter the premises but were gunned down by FC personnel,” he said.
In the ensuing gunfire, three men were killed and two others injured. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the attack and praised security forces for their prompt response.
The paramilitary force, formerly known as the Frontier Constabulary, was renamed by the government in July. Its headquarters is close to the main compound and includes barracks, hospitals and residential quarters.
