United States President Donald Trump on Thursday said that he and his administration would “permanently pause migration from all Third World countries.”
On a post on Truth Social, he said he was doing it to “allow the U.S system to fully recover and terminate all of Biden’s illegal admissions.” He also said it was to “end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens of our Country, denaturalise migrants who undermine domestic tranquillity, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or incompatible with Western Civilisation.”
The president made the comments following the death of a National Guard member on Thursday after being shot near the White House in an ambush that investigators say was carried out by an Afghan national.
What are Third World Countries?
It is unclear what Trump meant by “third world countries,” since the phrase is outdated and originated during the Cold War to describe nations that were neither allied with the US nor with the Soviet bloc. First World countries referred to nations allied with the US, and Second World referred to those aligned with the USSR; India was considered “third world” during that period.
Today the term is often used loosely to describe developing countries or to compare their social and economic development. There is no official list of “third world” countries, but the United Nations classifies a group called Least Developed Countries (LDCs).
The LDC list is based on per capita income, a Human Assets Index, and economic and environmental vulnerability. Currently there are 44 countries classified as LDCs; Afghanistan is included. To graduate from the list, a country must meet the threshold in two of the three criteria.
In the post, Trump added that the goals of permanently pausing migration “will be pursued with the aim of achieving a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations, including those admitted through an unauthorized and illegal Autopen approval process. Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation. Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for — You won’t be here for long!”
In a separate post he wished American citizens, “who have been so nice in allowing our Country to be divided, disrupted, carved up, murdered, beaten, mugged, and laughed at, along with certain other foolish countries throughout the World, for being ‘Politically Correct,’ and just plain STUPID, when it comes to Immigration” a Happy Thanksgiving.
He also claimed the US foreign-born population now stood at 53 million people, of whom most were “on welfare, from failed nations, or from prisons, mental institutions, gangs, or drug cartels.” “They and their children are supported through massive payments from Patriotic American Citizens who, because of their beautiful hearts, do not want to openly complain or cause trouble in any way, shape, or form,” he added.
