A vast Russian overnight attack on Ukraine killed two people and wounded about two dozen, Ukraine’s foreign minister said on Saturday, November 29, as Moscow continued strikes while the world debated peace plans.
“Russia shot dozens of cruise and ballistic missiles and over 500 drones at ordinary homes, the energy grid, and critical infrastructure,” Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X.
Explosions were heard across the capital, Kyiv, through the night. Russian drones and missiles struck districts of Kyiv early on Saturday, injuring people and leaving debris from downed drones across the city.
Officials gave varying local casualty figures: some said 11 people were injured in Kyiv, while the head of Kyiv’s military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported strikes at six locations and said six people had been hurt, including a child, with one person in serious condition in hospital.
It was the second attack on Kyiv in four days; seven people were killed on Tuesday when Russian forces launched a prior barrage of drones and missiles.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a strike set fire to the lower floors of a high-rise apartment block west of the city centre. Another blaze in a central district was quickly brought under control, and Tkachenko reported a fire in an apartment building on the east bank of the Dnipro River. Air-defence units were active over the capital.
Photos and videos posted online showed at least one apartment building on fire and emergency crews working amid damaged buildings and streets strewn with debris.
